Christmas With Dr. Himarios

In the tapestry of time, the Christmas of 2024 arrives quietly, much like a long-lost old friend, bringing with it a familiar yet fresh ambiance, gently knocking on the doors of winter. This is the gentlest moment of the year when the world is cloaked in a thin veil of snow, and everything seems immersed in a tranquil and mysterious atmosphere, awaiting blessings from afar.

By virtue of fate's clever arrangement, I had the privilege of spending a serene and unforgettable Christmas Eve with Daniel and Jane. The joyful messenger Tracy transformed what had appeared to be a stifling room into a warm Christmas cottage, with soft lighting and a harmonious atmosphere where we conversed freely, sharing sincere wishes and warm encouragement. An indescribable sense of warmth and harmony enveloped the air, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.

Dr. Daniel D. Himarios is currently the Dean of the College of Business at the University of Texas at Arlington and serves as Vice President overseeing the school's global academic affairs. In 1978, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, followed by a Master's degree in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1980, and a Doctorate in 1984. As a scholar, Professor Himarios has made significant contributions to the field of economics, publishing numerous journal articles addressing issues such as 《Euler equation tests of Ricardian equivalence》 and 《Devaluations Improve the trade balance》. His research has offered crucial insights for the advancement of economics and has earned him a solid reputation in academia.

However, Mr. Himarios's influence extends well beyond academia. His modesty and gentleness have garnered him widespread respect and recognition in educational exchanges with China. Since 2001, he has played a pivotal role in the EMBA program collaboration between the University of Texas at Arlington and China, having trained over 5,000 senior business executives, thereby contributing to the development of the Chinese economy. This EMBA program is considered one of the most successful joint educational ventures between China and foreign institutions. Such collaboration has not only promoted academic exchange but also provided opportunities for international business education to the Chinese business community.

As one of the founders of this project, Professor Himarios has deeply engaged in the cooperation between China and the United States, and his understanding of Chinese culture has enabled the EMBA program at UTA to quickly take root and succeed in China. After 20 years of effort, the UTA EMBA program now partners with three prestigious universities, achieving new heights of reputation. The program's influence continues to expand, attracting an increasing number of collaborations between American and Chinese universities to offer EMBA courses, providing executives with international education experiences without leaving the country. Despite the intensifying market competition, the UTA EMBA has maintained its stability and competitiveness in China, achieving remarkable results.

Professor Himarios's leadership and vision have propelled the substantial development of the EMBA program in China. His collaboration with China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission not only showcases his commitment to the program's sustainable development but also allows nearly a thousand UTA alumni to play crucial roles in China's largest state-owned enterprises. Tracing back the success behind this endeavor, Professor Himarios's deep insights into Chinese culture and business processes remain a key factor. Such an ability to integrate into the host country’s culture and business environment is rare among foreign business leaders. It is this unique understanding that has enabled him to create a model of multinational educational cooperation.

It is indeed an honor to spend Christmas with such an outstanding figure. May we continue to promote academic and cultural exchanges in the years to come and together embrace a brighter tomorrow.
