The First China Minigolf League 2024 Successfully Held

On November 23-24, 2024, the First China Minigolf League successfully concluded at the Zhouzhuang Invengo Minigolf International Course in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The event attracted nearly 20 high-level teams, with over 100 Minigolf elite players participating from various regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, and Guangxi, showcasing a spectacular display of skill and competition in Minigolf.

This event was organized by the China Leisure Sports Administration Center(CLSAC) of the General Administration of Sport of China, with joint cooperation from the China MinigolfSport Promotion Committee, the Jiangsu Provincial Leisure Sports Management Center, and the Kunshan Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism. Additionally, the People's Government  of Zhouzhuang Town and the Cultural and Tourism Development Bureau of the Kunshan Tourism Resort provided support, while Suzhou SmartPutt Sports Technology Co., Ltd. was responsible for operational execution.

During the two-days competition, participants engaged in intense matches across the 18-hole Felt and Benton courses. The athletes remained composed, aimed carefully, and executed precise shots, all for the goal of achieving a single stroke victory, demonstrating their best competitive state and spirit.

Following fierce competition, the Kunshan MinigolfSport Association representative team emerged as the champion, while the second and third places were secured by the Guangxi Team and Shenfeng Team respectively.

Awards for the top three teams in the group category were presented. In the individual stroke play category, the champion was Qin Liang from the Kunshan Minigolf Sport Association, with Liu Yiming from the Duke University and Chen Wenqiao from the Shenfeng Team taking the second and third places respectively.

A comprehensive list of team and individual award recipients for the event is available (ties are ranked by the number of hole-in-ones).

This league not only provided a platform for Minigolf players to showcase their skills and engage with each other but also further promoted the development and popularity of Minigolf in the country. We look forward to the continued excitement of the next league!

Introduction to Minigolf

Minigolf refers to a sport played on compact courses (ranging from 1,000 to 6,600 square meters, approximately 1 to 10 acres), where players use a putter and a Minigolf ball to hole out with the fewest strokes possible on various types of holes (9-18). It is a global sport combining coordination, focus, and intelligence, blending competitive and recreational elements. Since its inception in the early 20th century, it has remained popular in Europe and America, appealing to all age groups.

To better promote and develop the sport, China Minigolf Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as "CMPC") was established in 2020 under the leadership of the China Leisure Sports Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China.

Since its establishment, CMPC has been at the forefront of promoting the popularization, professionalization, and standardization of Minigolf across the country. It has conducted promotional initiatives in 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, and in over 60 counties and cities, hosting more than 50 local events and over 80 activities, engaging more than 100,000 participants and impacting over 500,000 individuals. Furthermore, to ensure that Minigolf events development in a standardized, orderly, and regulated manner, CLSAC of the General Administration of Sport of China has officially issued a series of documents, including the "China Minigolf Competition Rules (Trial)", "Event Organization Guidelines", and "Participant Guidelines", providing guidance for the further standardized development of Minigolf in China.

Minigolf is an official international sport with a history of more than 100 years. Its highest sports organization is the International Minigolf Sports Federation (WMF), which is the member of AIMS and acknowledged by Olympic in 2020. Since 2016, it has been introduced to China by Invengo Group, and the 16th Minigolf World Championship was held in China for the first time in October 2019.

In January 2020, Minigolf sport was recognized as a national fitness sport by China Leisure Sport Administration Center(CLSAC) of the State General Administration of Sports, China(GASC) and the "China Minigolf Sports Promotion Committee(CMPC)" was established to be responsible for the domestic promotion of the sport and the participation of international competitions and activities on behalf of China

Departure Ceremony and Pledge Meeting of Organization Committee&Staff of China's First Minigolf League Match Was Held

On June 19, the departure ceremony and oath meeting of 2024 China Minigolf League Organization Committee&Staff, which was sponsored by the Social Sports Guidance Center of the State General Administration of Sport, was successfully held in Zhouzhuang Invengo Minigolf International Club. This is another highlight event in Kunshan after the 16th Minigolf World Championship in 2019. World Championships 2023 Announced For Sweden

Uppsala, Sweden - The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) together with Svenska Bangolfförbundet (SBGF) and Uppsala Bangolfklubb (UBGK) are excited to announce the awarding of the Minigolf World Championships 2023 General Class to Uppsala. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time the World Championships will be played since 2019 when they were held in Zhouzhuang, China. The World Championships are the premier international miniature golf tournament, normally held every two years. The tournament will be held from August 22 through August 26, 2023 with training days starting as early as August 12.

The competition will be held on the miniaturegolf and feltgolf courses at the UBGK. The UBGK was founded in 1934 and is one of Sweden’s oldest bangolf clubs, with approximately 250 members. Svenska Bangolfförbundet was founded in 1937 to support the sport. Uppsala is located in eastern Sweden and is the 4th largest city in the country. Besides minigolf, Uppsala is also known for the Uppsala Castle as well as being home to Sweden’s largest cathedral and the oldest Scandinavian higher education center. The city will offer many destinations for minigolfers and spectators alike who come for the championships.

Mr. Pasi Aho, WMF Vice President Sport said: “We are very grateful to SBGF and UBGK for applying at short notice after our main candidate in Switzerland withdrew its application. At the same time we are very pleased to return to Sweden with General Class championships 12 years after the fantastic 2011 World Championships in Stockholm. We are sure all parties will provide a most enjoyable championship at a perfect location, in the home of one of the world’s best minigolf clubs in recent history of the game.“

"This means a lot to us as a sport, to sports in Sweden generally and it will hopefully give a proper boost to mingolf in the country after virtually all championships have been canceled during the two-year pandemic,” says Mats Söderkvist, president of Svenska Bangolfförbundet.

In order to speed up the domestication of Minigolf equipment and venue facilities in China, the Secretariat, the Sports and Competition Committee, and the Technology and Training Committee have worked with several domestic precision machinery, new materials, plastic chemicals, Internet software, and IOT technology companies on this issue. The localization of sports equipment has been in-depth discussion and research. A draft plan has made for the national standards of clubs and venue facilities according to what the WMF initially drawn up based on China's specific conditions.

China is still in the early stage of popularization of Minigolf Sports. Regarding the standard use of Minigolf balls, we have formulated our own standards in terms of the diameter, roundness, hardness, elasticity, quality, roughness, material, etc. of the ball, on the basis of conforming to the international standards. The use of the Minigolf balls will be controlled within 10 in number. While In terms of club standards, the club’s length, weight, and head sag will be re-established to suit Chinese and Asian standards.

The design of the fairway takes into account the characteristics of the sport’s coverage of all ages, and the safety of children and the elderly. We formulates suitable venue standards in China, as well as a variety of styles and specifications for recreational fairways.

The 2020 Mini Golf Project Promotion Conference of Kunshan was held in Invengo Networking Industrial Park on April 29, 2020.

There were relevant participants from Kunshan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, Radio, Film and Tourism, Economic Department of Suzhou Sports Bureau, cultural and sports stations in 15 towns and sub-districts in Kunshan. Some members from Invengo Networking Industrial Park Co., Ltd., and Suzhou SmartPutt Technology Co., Ltd. also attended the conference.

Mr. Li Zhiping, chairman of Kunshan Invengo Networking Industrial Park Co., Ltd., introduced the origin, characteristics, development and planning of the Minigolf movement to the participants in detail. The Secretariat keeps close contact and visits the directors and the Committee Members

The Secretariat has stepped up liaison with the directors and units with the establishment of the CMPC (Chinese Minigolf Promotion Committee). During the period of the Covid-19, it has contacted Jiangsu Province, Suzhou City, Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone, Kunshan City, Hainan TV Station, Zhouzhuang Communist Committee, Soochow University, Dusit International and other units through telephone and visits. The Secretariat formulate the promotion of Minigolf in places where each main unit is located, as well as the preparatory plan for the establishment of the local Minigolf association.

The major units actively participate in the promotion of the sports, and provide suggestions for the future development of Minigolf in China. At the same time, it is proposed that the training of Minigolf should be started as soon as possible. It is necessary to train the first batch of athletes, referees and coaches in China as soon as possible. High quality and strict requirements must be applied through the process. So we will have a long-term plan to achieve an early entry into the ranks of high-level Minigolf sports team in the world.

The preparatory work for the establishment of the Kunshan Minigolf Association is about to start. By then, the association will become the first local association of Minigolf in China.
