World Championships 2023 Announced For Sweden

Uppsala, Sweden - The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) together with Svenska Bangolfförbundet (SBGF) and Uppsala Bangolfklubb (UBGK) are excited to announce the awarding of the Minigolf World Championships 2023 General Class to Uppsala. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time the World Championships will be played since 2019 when they were held in Zhouzhuang, China. The World Championships are the premier international miniature golf tournament, normally held every two years. The tournament will be held from August 22 through August 26, 2023 with training days starting as early as August 12.
The competition will be held on the miniaturegolf and feltgolf courses at the UBGK. The UBGK was founded in 1934 and is one of Sweden’s oldest bangolf clubs, with approximately 250 members. Svenska Bangolfförbundet was founded in 1937 to support the sport. Uppsala is located in eastern Sweden and is the 4th largest city in the country. Besides minigolf, Uppsala is also known for the Uppsala Castle as well as being home to Sweden’s largest cathedral and the oldest Scandinavian higher education center. The city will offer many destinations for minigolfers and spectators alike who come for the championships.

At the same time we are very pleased to return to Sweden with General Class championships 12 years after the fantastic 2011 World Championships in Stockholm. In order to speed up the domestication of Minigolf equipment and venue facilities in China, the Secretariat, the Sports and Competition Committee, and the Technology and Training Committee have worked with several domestic precision machinery, new materials, plastic chemicals, Internet software, and IOT technology companies on this issue. The localization of sports equipment has been in-depth discussion and research. A draft plan has made for the national standards of clubs and venue facilities according to what the WMF initially drawn up based on China's specific conditions.
China is still in the early stage of popularization of Minigolf Sports. Regarding the standard use of Minigolf balls, we have formulated our own standards in terms of the diameter, roundness, hardness, elasticity, quality, roughness, material, etc. of the ball, on the basis of conforming to the international standards. The use of the Minigolf balls will be controlled within 10 in number. While In terms of club standards, the club’s length, weight, and head sag will be re-established to suit Chinese and Asian standards.

The 2020 Mini Golf Project Promotion Conference of Kunshan was held in Invengo Networking Industrial Park on April 29, 2020.
There were relevant participants from Kunshan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, Radio, Film and Tourism, Economic Department of Suzhou Sports Bureau, cultural and sports stations in 15 towns and sub-districts in Kunshan. Some members from Invengo Networking Industrial Park Co., Ltd., and Suzhou SmartPutt Technology Co., Ltd. also attended the conference.
Mr. Li Zhiping, chairman of Kunshan Invengo Networking Industrial Park Co., Ltd., introduced the origin, characteristics, development and planning of the Minigolf movement to the participants in detail. The Secretariat has stepped up liaison with the directors and units with the establishment of the CMPC (Chinese Minigolf Promotion Committee). During the period of the Covid-19, it has contacted Jiangsu Province, Suzhou City, Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone, Kunshan City, Hainan TV Station, Zhouzhuang Communist Committee, Soochow University, Dusit International and other units through telephone and visits. The Secretariat formulate the promotion of Minigolf in places where each main unit is located, as well as the preparatory plan for the establishment of the local Minigolf association.
The major units actively participate in the promotion of the sports, and provide suggestions for the future development of Minigolf in China. At the same time, it is proposed that the training of Minigolf should be started as soon as possible. It is necessary to train the first batch of athletes, referees and coaches in China as soon as possible. High quality and strict requirements must be applied through the process. So we will have a long-term plan to achieve an early entry into the ranks of high-level Minigolf sports team in the world.
The preparatory work for the establishment of the Kunshan Minigolf Association is about to start. By then, the association will become the first local association of Minigolf in China.
